Disclosure. I recieved a Black+Decker RoboVac to facilitate this post. All opinions are my own.
When I first recieved this I thought it would be great for my parent’s. Now that they are in their 70’s and I know my mother has back and knee problems as it is, I thought it would be helpful for her. What I had not realized is that since he retired last year, my dad had taken over the housecleaning because of her bad back. This actually is part of a wider story. After his retirement last year, my parents sat down and looked at reality.
They were not getting younger and the likelyhood of one of them passing was real. Though it is unlikely soon, they are not doing poorly at all. However they realized that after over 45 years of marriage, there was a lot of routine involved. This resulted in one person being responsible for portions of day to day life. The other person meanwhile was doing the rest and never crossing each others territory. This is a normal life reality for many people and my parents were no exception.
What they realized is that for each of them to survive the passing of the other, they would need to actually learn to fix the gaps that would be created if they lost the other. So my mother took a stronger turn at driving (until her cataracts put her in a temporary hold on this). My dad started cleaning and cooking, as well as learning how to balance the household bills and do grocery shopping. There is a long and elaborate story here. Long story short though it is a cautionary tale of how important it is to be able to cover off for each other. A side important part of there story is how well my parents take to technology. This means that time saving devices like a robotic vaccum are things my parents would actually accept and take advantage of.
So the interesting thing was, that instead of my mother being the one to use the Robovac, my dad did. And for the first few times through he actually followed it around. Watching to make sure it was not skipping spots. He was quite pleased with it, as it allowed him a chance to do other house work. It also freed him up work on other projects while the floor sweeping was now totally taken care of. Overall he was very pleased with the cleaning the vaccum did.
Introducing The Black+Decker RoboVac
The robotic vacuum feature a 9” extra wide brush roll to clean more area per pass compared to the leading robotic vacuum on the market and a clear one liter-sized dustbin to hold more dirt and debris for optimized runtime and cleaning performance. The debris collects itself into a compacted disc form to make removal quick. Its high-performance HEPA-certified filter captures 99.9% of pet dander and dust particles (.3 microns and greater) to reduce allergens and irritants in the home.
The BLACK+DECKER Mobile App links with the vacuum to provide a variety of functions. This includes three cleaning modes – Auto, Quick, and Spot Clean. The Mobile App also connects to the vacuum for manual driving. This gives the user the ability to direct the path of the robot while it cleans. Within the App, you can monitor the robovac’s battery status. Which also mean you can send the vacuum back to its dock for charging at the touch of a button. Personalization features in the Mobile App include the ability to name the robovac and choose the color of the vacuum’s prismatic color-changing LED cover.
Once the vacuum needs to recharge, it automatically returns to its dock to prepare for its next job. With a large, clear dustbin, you can easily see when it is full and then remove the bin with the push of a button.
Black+Decker RoboVac can be found at many retailers and building supplies stores.
I love the sounds of these robovacs – they seem like a huge time saver 🙂
