I received a BT2200 and Active Noise Cancelling Headphones from Purosound to facilitate this post. All opinions are my own.
Finding A Viable, Usable Bluetooth Headphones
As an autism family, one thing we have come to realize is that our son loves to use his tablet. However, he will often drive up the sound to hear what is going on over top of everyone else. There are numerous reasons for this. It increases his sensory input, and having numerous sources of sound can cause his sensory issues. Like all kids, his stuff has to have volume priority over everyone else. We have tried for years to find solutions that worked. He used cheap Bluetooth headphones that lasted a couple of weeks and usually died a couple of hours after he started wearing them. We have even tried to use traditional headphones, but he chews the wires going through a new set every week or two.
For years I have been looking for solid Bluetooth headsets for both him and his little sister who has suffered in the past with ODD.
One of the major features I actually considered while I was looking was a volume limiter. I would love to be able to put a max level on the volume so it does not damage their hearing. Most of the volume-limiting headsets I have seen tend to aim for the 85 dB range.

Puro Adds Noise Cancelling To An Already Great Lineup
A few weeks ago I was given the opportunity to check out the BT2200 headphones from Purosound and then subsequently a newer noise-cancelling headphone set. Purosound designs its headphones with children in mind, utilizing the 85dB target to create a solid line of products. They are marketed at providing children with quality headphones without the high volume that comes with standard headphones.

Noise cancelling headphones are great because they work to reduce outside noises allowing a purer sound. More importantly, they are often used for autistic children (and adults) to simply dampen (or shut out) the huge sensory input they are getting from the world around them. Purosound’s BT2200 has 82% background noise reduction built-in. The Active Noise Cancelling headsets have an ADDITIONAL 22dB exterior noise reduction making them even better at cutting outside noises.
However, I will be serious. One of the major benefits of this headset that sets it above all other headsets is the battery. BT2200 lasts for 18 hours while the Active Noise Cancelling headphones last for 22 hours or 16 while using Active Noise Cancellation. This is a massive amount of time for a headset to work without requiring additional charging. Just one more thing that makes it attractive to parents with special needs children. The long battery life means that you do not have a meltdown midday while you put the headphones on to charge.
