About a year and a half ago we dropped the idea of using cable in favor of cutting the cord completely and making Netflix our prime (and only) source of shows/movies. A large part of it was because we had really switched already, however there were other reasons as well.
With cable we found we were always limited, for example, there were shows that the kids wanted to watch repeatedly, that were only on once a week. There would be times when there was no suitable kids programing on TV at all. In general having the flexibility that Netflix offers of always being able to choose how many episodes of what show we were going to watch, became something that we needed.
Another issue we were constantly dealing with, was that our autistic son had figured out how to operate the PVR without using a remote. He could manipulate the buttons to download and delete whatever he wanted. This was problematic, as he would constantly delete his sisters’ shows while adding many of his. When we gave up the cable we no longer had this issue.
Happy Birthday From Netflix
Until recently that had been great. A number of great factors played a part in our decision. But then Netflix decided to up their game. They added a number of happy birthday songs showcasing 14 different versions performed by the kids’ favorite characters. For years we had been forced to search through YouTube for a good version of Happy Birthday that would make the kids happy and it can be a time consuming task. Videos come and go, they get deleted or buried in search and bookmarks get lost in system crashes. So the idea that Netflix was actually going to include this as one of the tools available to parents was great news in our household.
What is your child’s favorite birthday version?
So true there are limited tv shows one can watch on TV and when your want something for the children to watch its not available. With Netflix it is at your fingertips. Love that Netflix added a number of happy birthday songs showcasing 14 different versions performed by the kids’ favorite characters. – now that makes the kids and parents happy.
Birthdays are stressful. We’ve always stuck w/the basic party plan.. goodie bags, games, prizes.. we had the worst parties out of the ppl we knew. My friends book halls and have invites professionally made.. one friend spent over 1,200 on her daugher’s 8th birthday.

I love Netflix birthdays! such a great idea. My girls are 5 & 3 so we really havent had to experience the big birthday parties with friends but i can just imagine how much that will run us as they get older and want a special theme or to do things

I know kids would love a birthday theme around Netflix and it’s much easier to plan

I’ve cut our cable down to the most basic channels & use Netflix as our sole entertainment. I have never seen the Netflix birthday songs yet but will try to find them next summer when it’s the kids birthdays.
Good for you guys. We have been talking about cutting the cable for at least 2 years and still haven’t! Want to watch something and, oh, that isn’t a channel we get, want to watch a specific sport and it is blacked out. Such a scam.
I haven’t seen the Netflix birthday songs, but I’m sure kids love seeing them with their favourite characters!
