I tried this product with my son as he does enjoy playing with puzzles. Because of his autism, in his particular case, he does not have any interest in actually drawing or art of any form so we did work to create an image for him. That said he enjoyed watching us create it ( we just could not convince him to participate in that part) but what he really truly enjoyed was putting the puzzle together when we were finished.
There are numerous ways to make these puzzles, including drawing the pictures with crayon, marker or paint and even using a sheet image of the correct size, gluing it on and cutting along the sides of the puzzle pieces.
Overall our son enjoyed the puzzle immensely and for any child who was into art or creating in any form, you will find that both the creating the puzzle and the playing with it afterwards will go over well.
