We went to see a show tonight. We actually had the opportunity to check out Seussical a musical based around the works of Dr Seuss that was written by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty.
Those who read my blog regularly know that we have an autistic son and for anyone who knows autism, things like this can be hit or miss. Tonight we nailed it. I knew our daughters would enjoy it as both have been involved in musical theatre through a local church for the past few years. Our son tends to enjoy musical theatre as well but sometimes he just does not want to be there.
Even just sitting down and seeing the set alone and we could tell this was likely going to be a good night. This show was essentially two acts that were each just over an hour and split by a 20 min break. He watched enthusiastically through both acts laughing and clapping and basically totally enjoying himself.
We also need to be completely serious, both my wife and I had the time of our lives as well. Seussical was well done, both the kids and the adults performed well. You could clearly tell that those on stage (and backstage) had put an extreme amount of effort into this production and that they really enjoyed what they were doing, this made the show even better still.
All Things considered I really do recommend that if you can get yourself to Moncton in time to see the performance of Suessical on June 4th at 1pm it really is something I would recommend. It has been a long time since I have had the opportunity to see a show that has been so much fun for the whole family and it was incredibly relaxing to have the opportunity to sit back and relax and enjoy the show, simply because the kids were so into it that you knew there were not likely going to be any issues with the evening.
