Disclosure I got a Canadian National Classic wooden train set from Whittle to facilitate this review. All opinions are my own.
Over the years my kids have collected a large number of different wooden train sets. What is great about wooden sets is they often are interchangeable. The tracks and pieces usually go together and the trains from various other manufacturers tend to all fit on the same size track.
This is often a bonus as kids will often change from one favorite character to another or they will see a cool train and want to add it to their collection. With wooden train sets this is often possible.
Whittle Shortline Railroad has designed a series of Canadian trains to add to their growing collection of trains. The Canadian trains are all based on real railways and real trains, much like other trains in their collection. I love this set as it allows our children the opportunity to have trains that resemble those they see around us every day. It also helps us do it without the major expense of an HO gauge train sets.
My father had a decent set of HO trains and tracks. The expense of maintaining it, as well as the space required to keep it set up all the time was to much to allow us the opportunity to enjoy it properly. The flexibility of wooden trains provides a much more flexible as well as cheaper option. Whittle is providing the real as well as current trains that we used to only get in HO sets. This means that their trains become a great gift for kids who like realism in their toys.
My wooden train set came in a cool presentable box as well, making it an easy present to wrap. The sets are made with quality materials and are built to last. These train sets are sure to please any avid train collector, that you have on your gift list.
