We all have a specific issue in our personal lives that is tragic, whether it is the early death of a friend or family member due to a disease (cancer being the usual culprit but others do exist) or even accidents. Whether it is the long term disability of someone from things like autism, spina bifida, or many other illnesses that can cause physical or mental disabilities. It could even be the unfortunate loss of a loved one who has lived a long life but that you are not yet ready to let go of.
It always brings to mind the question, why does this happen and does it really have a purpose. This is a question many people have asked themselves over the years, from all walks of life and from all religious persuasions.
Kirk Cameron has put together a documentary to look at this from the Christian point of view and while I do not often get interested in documentaries, the simple involvement of him in this and my enjoyment of his many shows he has been involved with in the past convinced me to really take a look at this and to sit down and look with an open mind.
It is not my place to suggest that this or any other look is the right view however I have found that in my personal view when dealing with difficult tragedies that all religions have something they can offer as to what purpose these tragedies serve. This film is an excellent look at the Christian viewpoint of how the Christian faith is strengthened in times of tragedy.
It is a must see documentary no matter if you are Christian or of another faith as it helps to not only open your eyes to a second viewpoint (or reinforce your present one) but also gives you tools to work to deal with your own personal tragedies, because we all know that when we are dealing with tragedy, we do not care where the tools come from to help us cope, we only care that we have the tools to go on living our lives and realizing that even the tragedies have meaning (even if we can not see it now)
Inspired by the death of Cameron’s close friend who succumbed to cancer at the age of 15, Kirk Cameron takes viewers on an inspiring and hope-filled visual journey to better understand the biggest doubt-raising question in faith: “Where is God in the midst of tragedy and suffering?”
Going back to the beginning—literally—Kirk investigates the origins of good and evil and how they impact our lives … and our eternities. UNSTOPPABLE will prompt audiences to consider the role that pain and suffering has in our lives, as they affirm their personal views on faith, and encourage conversation starters about God, suffering, and hope.
In theaters for only two weeknights (Sept 24th and Oct 3th, 2013), UNSTOPPABLE: A Live Event with Kirk Cameron sold a staggering 260,000 tickets and reached a theatrical gross of over $3.2 million dollars. In just two nights this independent project sent a loud message – audiences want thought-provoking and meaningful entertainment.
Kirk Cameron is best known for his memorable role as “Mike Seaver,” a cultural icon of the 80’s, with his mullet hairstyle, cool glasses, and wisecracking comebacks. More recently he enjoyed much success with the No. 1 grossing inspirational film of 2008, Fireproof, and his recent documentary, Monumental. Kirk and his wife, Chelsea, were on-screen sweethearts during their Growing Pains years and are the founders of Camp Firefly, where terminally and seriously ill children and their families are provided an all-expense paid retreat (www.CampFirefly.com). Together, Kirk and Chelsea live in California with their six children.
