When we travelled to Toronto for a week earlier this summer, we were looking for a family fun experience. We also wanted a vacation experience that we never had enjoyed before. We were going on the first long road trip with our autistic son. Our family had been waiting until we felt his behaviours would allow us to do this trip without any major incidents.
We each had our own things that we wanted to do in Toronto, but ever since I first heard of Ripley’s Aquarium, I wanted to go check it out. I love fish and I enjoy watching them swim around calmly as if they had no cares in the world.
Ripley’s Aquarium Rocks!!!
Ripley’s Aquarium was something that did not even exist when I left Toronto almost 11 years ago. In fact, it only opened in 2013. Here is something I quickly figured out though. Ripley’s absolutely Rocks! It was a great experience and not only did I enjoy myself but all my family had a ball. Even our son really enjoyed himself. Sometimes he seemed to get truly into watching some of the fish swim around. The jellyfish seemed to be the most intriguing to him and it was fun seeing him just standing there watching the jellyfish swimming(floating) around.
My littlest one on the other hand really seemed to be far more intrigued by the Sea Anemones. She could not get enough of those neat little brightly coloured little things waving around in the tanks.
There was also this incredible moving sidewalk, that took us through a winding tour of an underwater reef. The Dangerous Lagoon as it was called is an incredible experience. You go through a long glass tunnel surrounded by a massive tank with all sorts of fish. I saw things like large stingrays, sharks and even a cool swordfish. And to make it all even better, the aquarium offers an overnight experience sleeping in the lagoon tunnel which would make almost any kids day.
There is so much I saw and so much we did that it is almost impossible to cover how much interesting stuff they had at Ripley’s Aquarium. I will simply say that it was a day that we will never forget and it is an experience that I recommend for everyone.
