Disclosure: Nectar Mattresses provided me with a Queen Mattress for the purpose of this review. All opinions are my own.
Over the years my wife and I have discussed replacing our mattress. We have not actually upgraded our mattress for quite a few years. Over that time we have looked at them and talked about them, but simply did not get around to it yet.
We had even gotten our children new mattresses, but as most parent’s do, we tended to not pay as much attention to what we needed for ourselves. In many ways, I am happy we delayed, because it put us where we are today. In the past few years, there has been significant advances in mattress technology and new expandable foam mattresses have started to show up in a big way in the marketplace. I had been intrigued by these and I just recently had the opportunity to try one of them out.
I picked the queen mattress to try so that my wife and I could get to upgrade ours. This also gave me the chance to get a real feel for how comfortable they are. Once it arrived by courier, I was surprised at how compact (yet still fairly large and bulky) a compressed foam mattress could be.
It arrived in a rolled tube in a large blue canvas drawstring bag. The whole mattress was encased in a vacuum sealed bag that was rolled up tight and taped tight. I removed the old mattress and then picked up the Nectar and took it into the bedroom. Once there I opened the bag and removed the draw string bag, sliced the tape and unrolled it.
Nectar sent along a sealed safety cutting knife to safely open the bag. These have no sharp edges to poke the mattress as the blade is tightly enclosed inside two pieces of plastic. As soon as I broke the seal on the bag you could hear the air start to decompress the foam. It is not a super fast process so I was able to easily open up the bag fully. I fiddled around removing all the plastic, and even lined the mattress up properly before it ever got close to fully decompressing.
After a couple hours, I laid down and give it a quick test and was pleased with how it felt. I got my wife to try it out and she was happy as well. Now this is a brand new style of mattress for us as we were coming off a pillow top coil. There was definitely a couple days adjustment period to getting used to the new one. However, we do love it and find it to be extremely comfortable.
There are warnings in the pack telling you that it is highly likely you will smell a gassy smell for two or three days. This is due to the chemicals used to pack the mattress. This definitely exists, however if you are not extremely sensitive it really should not bother you. We did keep our window open during the day to make sure the gas had an opportunity to escape, to be on the safe side.
Overall we are extremely pleased with the Nectar mattress and find that we are definitely sleeping better then we had been on our old one. As I mentioned above it took some getting used to at first, however it was not an uncomfortable transition.
I really do suggest that if you are in the for a new mattress, try out Nectar Mattresses. In all honesty, I believe they will help most people get a better night’s sleep than they were on their old mattresses.
